What I’ve been working on that I’m really excited about…

For the past six months, I’ve been working on a new project.
It’s called Speak Up Voicewear and it’s a jewelry line that encourages others to speak up against sexual abuse.

Right now I’m in the very beginning stages of creating Speak Up Voicewear.
I just got an email today saying that my first set of samples will be on my doorstep within the week.
Can’t wait to see them and share them with you guys!

But until then, I thought it might be interesting to know how and why SUVW came about.

About a year ago I wrote a blog post called, “What my message to the world would be if I were to die tomorrow.”
Then main message of the post is about speaking up and getting help.

Not a day goes by that I don’t wish I had spoken up sooner.
When I was sexually abused I never told when it happened.
I remained silent because I was told too.
Kept it a secret for 20 years.

During those 20 years, I felt suffocated
Stressed. Depressed. Suicidal.
Haunted by traumatic memories.
Weighed down by the heaviness of carrying such a big secret.

Then one day I couldn’t keep the secret anymore.
I told my husband.
As scary as it was to tell him, I remember feeling so relieved after a few days.

The big secret was no longer eating at me.
I had spoken up.

I first spoke up nine years ago and doing so led me to seeking help.
To not feeling so heavy.
To enjoying life more.

Speaking up was my first step to healing myself.
Had I not done it I don’t know where I would be right now.
Which is why I believe in the power of speaking up.

Not only can it contribute to personal healing, but it can also help others heal as well.
Because when you speak up it encourages others to speak up.
And when we speak up together, we break the cycle of silence.
