Why couldn’t you keep it? (Poem)

Why couldn’t you be quiet?
Bury it and deny it.Like the rest of us.
It’s something we don’t discuss.
You’re hurting the family,
Just so you can be,
Free of the pain.
As you tarnish our name.
We don’t want the truth.
About what happened in your youth.
Let it go.
You know,
That nothing you do,
Will make us believe in you.
And who are you trying to save?
You were meant to take it to the grave.
This was our family secret,
Why couldn’t you keep it
Is what they asked me.
But deep down I knew,
Speaking up was what I had to do.
